It’s one of the best days of your life and there are going to be loads of official and unofficial photographs taken.
With that in mind wouldn’t you like to be the
best possible version of yourself?
I know from personally training lots of brides to be on a 121 basis and when they come to my Hen Do Bootcamp events that they love the feeling of being
in the best possible shape for them.
It just gives them loads more confidence and poise for that special day.
To be honest, it’s also relevant to men, and that’s shown by the number of grooms I get through my door.
So, with that in mind, I recommend that you give yourself 6 months so that you can make slower adjustments to your diet and training regime depending on where you are currently but I’m basing this on somebody who’s not really doing anything now.
Now, this is ideal as it means that the changes won’t be as restrictive and are also likely to last longer i.e. become part of your new lifestyle……hopefully!
Now that’s not to say I can’t work miracles in weeks, I can and have but it’s harder work and way more restrictive.
So here are my 5 steps to get you where you want to be for the big day.
Step 1. Get Assessed
Knowing where your journey starts is important so my clients have full flexibility, strength imbalance, and body fat testing so we can monitor progress
throughout the whole journey.
This is incredibly satisfying to the client as sometimes they don’t always feel like they’re making progress and I can show
them in the training logs I keep just how far we have come in terms of inches lost, increased cardiovascular fitness, or strength in the weights room
increasing.
Step 2. Dial it in on the Diet.
I recommend Intermittent Fasting to most of my clients as it really can turn the body into a fat-burning machine.

I.F. is not for everyone, so I also recommend a basic calorie-restriction diet focusing on protein, quality carbohydrates, and fats. We also have scheduled
meals off so you can still enjoy some of those treats but this entirely optional and also depends on where the client is now and how much weight they want to lose.
Starting 6 months out means you’ve got more leeway for those occasional lapses without sacrificing any progress and it also teaches longer lasting and
better eating habits in general
Step 3. Train To be Functionally Strong
Weight training is one of the best ways to change your body shape on a permanent basis. If you train to be flexible, strong, and athletically fit you’ll look amazing and feel awesome at the same time. I recommend different
types of exercise routines to my clients including weight training, kettlebell training and boxing-based sessions. My clients love this blend of training that
leaves them feeling exhilarated and ready to take on the day.
I run these types of programs all the time with my clients, both male, and female as it gets results.
Step 4. Sleep is the Key
Anybody who has tried to accomplish anything when they haven’t had enough sleep knows how hard it is. The brain feels like it’s in a fog and quite literally
the brain controls the body’s actions. You won’t want to go to the gym or do that run and then you may just eat all the wrong foods because you’re annoyed with yourself. It happens, I’ve seen it and to be honest, I’ve done it myself on occasion. Having accountability with someone like a PT or a friend
is important but prioritize sleep to give yourself the best possible chance.
Try to get into a sleep schedule most evenings and it’s fairly obvious but don’t drink coffee late in the day and try not to look at social media within an hour of
your planned bedtime.
Step 5. Don’t Sweat the Small Things
As the big day approaches It’ll be a balancing act between organizing wedding
stuff and keeping to be plan. That’s why it’s important to start earlier rather than later. In my 20 years of training clients to achieve a goal the longer the
lead time the better so that when things don’t go to plan you’ve got a bit of leeway to get back on track.
At this point, you’ll have given your all under my guidance so if you have the occasional slip up it doesn’t really matter. Under my accountability program, you’ll get right back on it the next day.
If you’ve started early enough, you don’t need to start increasing workouts as you may be doing up to 4 sessions a week and you’ll be zoned in and looking and feeling great.
Now having said all that I’ve worked some miracles with only a short lead to an event, say 4-6 weeks.
So, what do we do if that’s the case?
Well, we must be realistic as to what is achievable. Yes, I can drop a stone off you in this time frame but the client has to be pretty committed to the overall
plan which may include some basic activity every day.
This could be as simple as walking combined with yoga-style poses and stretching along with regular weight training and cardio work.
